OVERVIEW

color of you

The title sequence is inspired by individuals in my life. Something about being twenty and trying to figure it out tends to resonate with young adults.

PROMPT

Create a title sequence for a made-up show.

SOFTWARE

Illustrator + Photoshop + After Effects + Procreate

concept

I was attracted to Pantone swatches. I wanted the specific colors of the Pantone swatches to reflect the essence of the individuals involved in the title sequence.

COLORS

According to the National Institutes of Health, 65% of the population are visual learners.

CONSTRUCT/DECONSTRUCT

I wanted each poster shot to be made up of cards that I was able to piece together.

COMBINATION OF STYLES

With the use of Procreate I was able to construct hand drawn floral decorations that acted as secondary animation.

storyboards

With animation, storyboards are always challenging because when you get into the thick of things, plans change. For the most part my vision came to life!

poster shots

I assembled each poster image using visuals that reminded mean of the individual. Then, I imported each poster image into Photoshop and removed 2 columns and 2 rows of rectangles that I could manipulate during the animation process.

final animation

In general, I'm pleased with my completed design, even though it's not flawless. The contemporary and striking color palette aids in producing the contrast I desired.

takeways

I think I had a strong concept. I wish I pushed the title sequence style further and focused more on timing and pacing. I was too focused on matching the movement to the song that some of the imagery was lost!

LOCK IN

Animating is time-consuming; after conceptualizing, it's crucial to commit to your idea and have faith in it.

INSPIRATION

Sometimes inspiration isn’t from the internet, but inspiration can from those closest to you.

ALWAYS MORE TIME

Time management is always challenging. A good rule of thumb is to always add several hours onto a project than original thought.
